Tucked in the rolling foothills of Nanton, Alberta, Six 9 Ranch is a family-owned and operated ranch with a simple mission: to raise high-quality Wagyu Angus cross beef that families can afford—and feel good about feeding their own.
We’ve been ranching for generations. It’s in our blood, and it’s how we were raised: early mornings, quiet rides through pasture, and a deep respect for the land and the animals we care for.
In 1897, our great-grandfather William Irwin (Bill) Monkman began acquiring land west of Nanton at just 16 years old. By 1904, he had purchased several sections, and in 1929–1930, the original ranch house was built on what became known as the Monkman Ranch. That same home is still lived in today.
The 69 brand was last officially registered in 1918 as a horse brand. It’s from this brand that our ranch takes its name—and we still proudly hold and use the 69 brand to this day.
Our cattle are bred from home-raised black Angus cows and heifers and crossed with Wagyu bulls, a combination we believe produces some of the most flavourful, tender, and nutrient-rich beef available. Our first crop of finished Wagyu cross beef will be available in the spring of 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
At Six 9 Ranch, we’re not a big operation. We’re a hardworking ranch family who knows what goes into raising good beef—because we do it ourselves, every day. We believe in hard work, long days, and making quality beef more accessible to more people. That means no inflated prices, no mystery labels—just beef raised with intention, respect, and pride.
We’re glad you’re here, and we can’t wait to fill your freezer with something we stand behind: Alberta beef done right.
Welcome to the ranch.
